David Ngoombujarra Sudden Death

David Ngoombujarra Sudden Death - David Bernard Starr, who also goes by the name of David Ngoombujarra, was found in the car park behind St Patrick's Church in Fremantle on Sunday July 17 about 2.40pm.

David Ngoombujarra was born in Meekatharra in 1967 before being raised by a white family in Perth as David Bernard Starr. 

After busking in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney in the 1980s David Ngoombujarra was given bit parts in the films Breaking Loose and Young Einstein.

But he shot to national attention with David Ngoombujarra performance as Pretty Boy Floyd in the 1993 feature film Blackfellas.

David Ngoombujarra also appeared in feature films Rabbit-Proof  Fence and  Australia, with director Baz Luhrmann speaking of his "extraordinary spirit, life force and creativity" during the shooting of the film.

David Ngoombujarra other films included Ned Kelly, Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles and Kangaroo Jack.  His television credits include Heartland (ABC), Janus, Correlli, Harry’s War, The Games, The Potato Factory, Home and Away, Roll, Parallax, and his final screen role in The Circuit in 2010.
The sudden death of a celebrated Aboriginal actor in Fremantle this month is under investigation by police.

David Ngoombujarra was treated by members of the public until St John Ambulance staff arrived, however he passed away a short time later in Fremantle Hospital.

The 44-year-old, originally from Meekatharra, has appeared in a string of high profile films over David Ngoombujarra career spanning three decade, including Australia, Ned Kelly, Crocodile Dundee, Rabbit-Proof Fence and Kangaroo Jack.

Police are appealing for a person who told officers that they spoke with Mr Starr shortly before David Ngoombujarra death, to come forward with information.
Anyone else who spoke with Mr Starr on the day of his death is also urged to contact police.
Mr Starr has won three Australian Film Institute Awards for David Ngoombujarra roles in Blackfellas, Black and White and The Circuit.
