Movie Review: Brothers

When you're compelled to see a movie without seeing one preview but just by being intrigued by the clever print ad, the marketing team is doing something right. Brothers, featuring Natalie Portman, Tobey Mcquire and Jake Gyllenhal, portrayed the pains involved with being a war family…and just being a family in general. Throughout the entire movie everything from the characters, set design, and wardrobe made the movie so believable that you felt like this could easily be your neighbors whose men have served their country for generations. Or who has that black sheep of the family who just can’t catch a break.


The tragedies involved with war and post-traumatic stress disorder can rattle a family to its core. Men don’t treat their families the same, women resent their husbands for leaving, the children deal with constant absence and when it’s all over they have to learn how to live normally. Without being obvious, this is the perfect anti-war movie showing the real issues that arise due to “serving our country”.

This is a must see and a tear jerker so get the Kleenex ready and be prepared to see a flawless movie.
